Market Bosworth run out of steam

-

TWO GAMES in less than four days became too much for Market Bosworth on this occasion, although high praise was given by the home side on Saturday in admitting Bosworth were the strongest team they had played all season.

In midweek Market Bosworth were at home under floodlights to Lutterworth, in the County Cup, giving the team from a higher league a bit of a shock and a good run for their money when Bosworth were in the lead by three points with seconds to go but then losing by four points. Lutterworth had scored first but a penalty kick from Joe Randon and a try from Harry Milner saw the scores level at half-time. Another penalty kick from Joe Randon and a try from Borley put Bosworth in the lead by 10 points, but the heavier and more mature Lutterworth overtook Bosworth in the end.

The mid-week exertions showed at the end of Saturday’s game when Forest piled on 21 points in the last quarter of the game. For the first 20 minutes, Bosworth, with the strong wind behind them, played the more attacking rugby but failing to get across the last five metres.

An injury to one of Forest’s wing forwards created the need for a substitution, when from the restart scrum this fresh player immediately ran in a try under the posts enabling an easy conversion.

A long distance penalty kick attempt by Bosworth’s Joe Randon from just inside the Forest half fell short, but Bosworth regained possession and continued to attack the Forest line getting over in the end but disallowed by the referee. Bosworth won the resultant scrum but a lapse of concentration in the backs let the Forest stand-off intercept a pass and run in a try at the other end.

The half-time score of 12-0 was not really a true reflection of the amount of possession each side had experienced.

Within seconds of the restart Forest’s stand-off was shown a yellow card for disputing the referee’s decision. Bosworth tried to make the most of the extra man, even getting over the line again but being held up, getting play close to the try line again Bosworth’s scrum half Hillier took a couple of quick penalties which eventually got Tom Randon over in the corner.

Although Bosworth appeared to be the stronger it was Forest who scored next from a line out where the ball was thrown to the front of the line from where one of their props was able to score, increasing their score to 19 points. During this final quarter of the game Bosworth started to show signs of tiredness and Leicester Forest took advantage to run out 33-10 winners.

This Saturday sees Bosworth at home to Long Buckby with a 2.15pm kick off.
