NEIL Lyne regrouped his squad and took them to the quaint Northamptonshire town of Rothwell seeking nothing less than three points.

Hinckley settled into their rhythm quickest and put the pressure on Rothwell from the off, dominating the game in their defensive third.

Quick movement and forward play started by Nathan Astill via Jo Lyne, Tom Smith and Matty Langham found Dom Brennan, who let fly to open the scoring on seven minutes to put Hinckley 1-0 up.

Hinckley continued to dominate the game but came up against a resilient Rothwell defence who were difficult to break down. Hinckley continued to control the middle of the park and force the play into Rothwell’s defensive third but were unable to capitalise on their superior possession.

Rothwell albeit defending in numbers relied on the surprise breakouts and whilst they made several advances towards the Hinckley defensive third, they failed to trouble Will Highland who was little more than a spectator in the first half.

Hinckley started the second half very much in the same vein as they finished the first half totally in control of the game linking up their quick passing and moving style without taking any risks.

Rothwell, meanwhile, continued to defend in numbers and appeared content not to have conceded any more goals.

The best chance of the second half fell to Liam Read whose curling shot was brilliantly kept out by the Rothwell keeper on 62 minutes when he turn the goal bound shot around the post for a corner.

Hinckley continued to pass and move and try and open up the Rothwell defence and patiently looked more and more worthy of increasing their lead but the resilient Rothwell back line continued to hold out.

The much-awaited second goal came after 78 minutes when Jarred Acton put Matty Langham in behind the Rothwell defence to drive into the box and shoot and his shot beat the keeper but unfortunately rebounded off the post. However, Dom Brennan followed the shot up and sneaked the ball home after several attempts to put Hinckley 2-0 ahead.

Hinckley continued to press the game and finished by far the stronger team with a solid performance and three points to take home.
