Cheapest – and dearest – streets to buy named in new survey

- By TOM MACK

A survey has identified the cheapest street in Leicestershire and Rutland to buy a home.

Based on sales prices over the past five years, Aylestone Road in Leicester was the cheapest area to buy a house in the LE postcode, followed by Falmouth Road in Rowlatts Hill and Rutland Street in the city centre.

At the other end of the scale, properties in Charnwood Forest and other rural settings dominated the most expensive list.

Other cheap streets included Hinckley Road in Leicester, Charnwood Court off London Road in Leicester and Vicarage Court in Earl Shilton.

Apart from Vicarage Court, the only other street outside the city to make the cheapest 10 was Brendon Close, in Shepshed, where five properties have sold since 2016, with an average asking price of £72,290.

The data was compiled by Property Solvers estate agency, using information from the Land Registry.

Warren Hill, near Bradgate Park, was the most expensive in terms of the average sale price, at just under £1.6 million.

That was followed by Stamford Road in Kirby Muxloe, and Swithland Lane in Rothley.

The top 10 all had average sale prices over £1 million.

Property Solvers co-founder Ruban Selvanayagam said: “To keep the data less skewed, we only ranked the streets that had over three sales.

“It’s therefore worth noting that, in recent years, a property in Bull Brigg Lane in Whitwell sold for £2,510,000 and, at the other end of the market, there were properties that sold for £46,000 and under on Barnard Close and Munnings Close in Leicester and Polden Close in Shepshed.”
