Dimbleby wins Measham finale

-

SUNDAY saw Measham AC stage their last open match of this season on the Ash Tree length of the Ashby canal at Snarestone.

Competitors had the benefit of warm sunshine with a stiff breeze and at last fish wanted to feed in places and it was clear that the fish had shoaled up, with some anglers having no bites while others around them “bagged up”. The winner on peg 12 was Doug Dimbleby who fed and fished his usual bread attack to the far shelf which resulted in him catching some nice skimmers to the 8ozs mark as well as roach and rudd to 4ozs. A switch to the inside on worm to give his far swim a rest resulted in a superb perch around the 1lb mark as well as smaller perch. Switching back to his far swim resulted in a few more small fish and at the scales he weighed 4lbs 6ozs.

Second place and not far behind on peg 16 was Ian Plant who fed and fished bread to the far ledge and his “put in” resulted in a lovely small bream around 1.5lbs. Smaller skimmers and roach found their way into his net at regular intervals and when they dried up switching to worm down the track resulted in small perch. At the scales he managed 4lbs 1oz.

Third place on peg 9 went to Andy Morton who fed worm down the track and alternated worm and maggot on the hook. He successfully netted 3 nice perch up to the 1lb mark before trying the far shelf. Fishing maggot and pinkie resulted a couple of small skimmers to ee him end with 3.5lbs.

Sunday sees Shackerstone AC stage their End of Season Open match - please note draw is at 8.45am at The Rising Sun - fishing is from 10am to 3pm.
