Haddow double clinches vital win for the Canaries

- BARWELL 2 ROYSTON TOWN 1 Southern League Premier Central

TWO goals from Tyler Haddow, on his first start for Barwell, helped the home side to a fine win over Royston Town.

Haddow picked up the man of the match for an energetic performance that left fans purring. It was a first win for Barwell since the end of January and resulted in three valuable points as the season heads to an end.

The first real chance of the game fell to Royston Town when Finlay Titchmarsh put in a good cross that reached the centre of the Barwell box. Matthew Bateman was well positioned to meet it but the ball just evaded him and went out for a goal kick. Isaac Galliford then shot well over the bar as the visitors continued to look for an early goal.

The first glimmer of what was to come from Tyler Haddow came after eight minutes when he controlled the ball and found Max Brogan with a good pass. Brogan took a shot but it was easy for Dimitrios Kyriatzis to collect in the Royston Town goal.

Just five minutes later and

Tyler Haddow had given Barwell the lead. He collected a ball that came through the away defence and he coolly slotted home beyond the goalkeeper. A brilliant start to the game for Haddow on his first start for Barwell.

Ten minutes later and it looked like Tristan Dunkley might get on the end of a Brady Hickey pass over the defence. Kyriatzis was alert to the danger, however, and came and claimed the ball. Kyriatzis saved again, this time from Haddow, when he managed to jump well to prevent the goalscorer from lobbing him. Haddow had been played the ball well by Dominic Brown-Hill.

A goal came for Royston Town after 31 minutes when Devonte Aransibia prodded the ball home when it fell kindly to him on the six yard line.

A corner was played in by James Brighton and it was headed towards goal. A combination of Herve PepeNgoma and Max Bramley stopped the ball but it bounced out to Aransibia who made no mistake.

Royston then had a spell of pressure and brought two good saves from Max Bramley, one from Ronnie Henry, as well as forcing some goalmouth scrambles that the Barwell defence just about dealt with.

As the half came to an end there was a chance for Tristan Dunkley when he flicked a Max Brogan cross behind him, hoping to find the bottom corner of the goal. However, a defender managed to get a leg out and deflect the ball for a corner.

Dominic Brown-Hill had a shot that went just wide of the post as the second half got underway. It was a bright start for the Canaries and this resulted in the second goal for Tyler Haddow after 51 minutes.

He made good movement in the box to meet a BrownHill cross from the right hand side and headed home to restore the Barwell lead.

Royston battled back in to the game as Adam Murray headed a corner over the bar and Brandon Adams shot just wide from an offside position. There was certainly a lot for both sides to be confident from as the half progressed.

With just 12 minutes left, there were strong appeals for a Royston Town penalty. Matthew Bateman looked to run on to a ball that had been threaded through the defence but Max Bramley came out and got down to block the ball. The ball rebounded from

Bramley and back to Bateman who then went down over Bramley’s body.

The referee was clear that he did not see it as a penalty and play continued.

Bateman then went close again with a header that Bramley saved and then a shot that went right across the front of goal and wide.

There was then a big chance for Royston at the end of the game when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. Brighton and Tom Newman were both over it but it was Newman that struck the ball. Luckily for the Barwell fans the ball went well over the bar and out of the ground.
