Smith dominates every move in a confident win for LRFC

- HINCKLEY LRFC 3 POTTON UNITED FC 0

HINCKLEY LRFC picked up another three points thanks to a 3-0 win over visitors Potton United FC.

Neil Lyne welcomed Jarred Acton back into the squad but kept faith in the same starting line-up that decimated Bugbrooke in the last outing.

Hinckley started the game at blistering pace and took the game to Potton with chances being created in quick succession for Tom Smith.

First, in the form of a goal mouth scramble after turning and shooting in the six-yard box - but the goalkeeper spread himself well and the ball rebounded off him to safety and then after being put through on goal by Liam Read, but failed to hit the target.

Then Ben Humphreys broke up play in the middle of the park and played a short pass into Matty Langham, who played in Tom Smith, who wriggled past the Potton defence and got his shot in - but that was smothered by the Potton goalkeeper to avert the danger.

Hinckley then forced a corner and Tom Smith stepped up to take it and curled it into the near post to be met perfectly by Jo Lyne who guided it in at the near post to make it 1-0 after 10 minutes.

Smith, who was dominating every move, then almost intercepted a Potton back pass but the goalkeeper reacted and recovered to avoid any further embarrassment.

The game continued with the same one-way traffic but Potton held tight and somehow managed to get to halftime without conceding any more goals.

Hinckley came out for the second half with the same level of intent as in the first half and immediately went on the offensive.

Dom Brennan was played in from a long throw from Jarred Acton and tried to hook it over the Potton

Don Brennan, pictured, along with Tom Smith, helped create a number of chances in the match against Potton FC defender amid shouts for hand ball and a penalty, but the referee was unsighted and waved play on and Potton escaped again.

Next up, Tom Smith played a short corner to Don Brennan who played a one-two and Smith crossed to the far post which was met by Danny Jenno and rolled agonisingly across the goal line with the goalkeeper well beaten, but unfortunately out for a goal kick as Potton survived another near miss.

Smith who was still in the thick of things then broke up play in the middle of the park and fed the ball out to Jarred Acton on the right who carried it forward and crossed behind the Potton back line to Jordan Burrows in an advanced position, who in turn pulled it back for the advancing Smith who, unfortunatel, couldn’t get his foot around the ball and shot agonisingly wide.

Liam Read worked hard to keep the possession and flicked onto Dom Brennan who in turn found Smith, who found Jordan Burrows who returned the ball to Smith to fire home from an acute angle to make it 2-0 Hinckley after 72 mins.

Quick-thinking from Dom Brennan saw Liam Read free on the right and he floated what looked to be the prefect ball which the goalkeeper managed to intercept but dropped, allowing Liam Read to pounce leaving the goalkeeper no choice but to pull him back and concede a penalty.

Jenno stepped up and struck the perfect penalty into the bottom right hand corner sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to put Hinckley 3-0 up and home and dry for another 3 points.
