Plans for a new Greggs by petrol station are submitted

- By NICK DAWSON

ACCESS TO THE SERVICE STATION WOULD NOT BE ALTERED

HINCKLEY could soon have a fourth Greggs as plans have gone in to build a new takeaway outlet of the bakery chain next to a petrol station on the A5.

The shop would be built to the north of the Dodwells service station, next to Aldi, where an LPG tank is currently located.

Staff for the venture would include five full-time workers and three parttime employees.

The access to the service station, off the A5, would be unaffected by the development.

McDonald’s launched a two-storey, drive-thru outlet by nearby Dodwells island, in 2020.

Plans have also been approved to knock down the Aldi store and replace it with a larger shop.

The store will be replaced with a larger supermarket, increasing the size of the store by just over 500 square metres and adding 40 spaces to the car park, bringing the total to 118.

The section of where the service station and Aldi are based, between Dodwells

island and the Longshoot junction, was set to be made into a dual carriageway. The plans were scrapped in July 2021, with planners saying the upgrades would deliver “little additional benefit”. A £4.7 million scheme to install traffic lights on the roundabout was carried out by Highways England between 2014 and 2015.

In December 2019, Greggs opened its third outlet in Hinckley, as part of a new retail complex off Rugby Road, run by Heart of England Co-operative Society.

The steak bake specialists also have two branches in the town centre, in the Britannia Shopping Centre and on Castle Street.

The new Greggs would be open every day from 7am to 10pm.
