Visiting rules have been changed at George Eliot

- By NICK DAWSON

THE George Eliot Hospital near Hinckley has changed its visiting rules as the coronavirus restrictions have eased.

The Nuneaton hospital has launched a visiting pilot in response to concerns raised about people not being able to see their loved ones.

Most of the wards on the hospital have had their rules relaxed, apart from the maternity ward.

Visitors will still be required to obey certain rules, including wearing a facemask, unless you have an exemption.

Daljit Athwal, the hospital’s chief nursing officer, said: “Visiting brings comfort to our patients but also to their family, friends and carers.

“That’s why I am delighted we are able to ease many of our rules following the change in national guidance.

“However, we must remain vigilant and I am asking for people’s support by wearing a mask when visiting, using hand gel and staying socially distant from staff and other visitors where possible.

“We must work hard together to limit the spread of infections and viruses such as Covid-19. Our hospital looks after the most vulnerable in our society and we must do all we can to keep them safe.” The new visiting rules: Patients will be allowed a maximum of two bedside visitors once per day for one hour between 1pm and 8pm.

Visits have to be by a pre-booked appointment only.

Visitors will be required to wear a surgical face mask while visiting the hospital and must maintain social distancing where possible.

Friends and family need to call the relevant ward area to request a visit. They will be asked a series of health questions before the visit and these will be repeated on arrival to reduce potential spread of infection to other patients, visitors or hospital staff.

Visitors are being asked to enter the hospital through the main entrance only.

Visitors are also asked not to visit facilities if they have symptoms of

Covid-19 or have come into contact recently with anyone with the virus.

Restrictions may vary depending on the circumstances of individual wards and the level of infection being experienced.
