Agonising single point defeat for Hinckley A...

-

HINCKLEY A had a game on Saturday against a tough side, Earlsdon Highway. It was a rough first quarter and it took Hinckley a while to find their feet against the physical side.

Highway took the lead by three goals in the first quarter, but Hinckley slowly chipped away the score during the rest of the game, bringing it back to a draw during the final quarter. Hinckley’s defence worked tirelessly to prevent the oppositions attack from securing their goals and battles were fought across the court to gain possession. Player of the match, Darcey Arrowsmith, moved with composure and speed in the attacking circle, providing options and opportunities for Hinckley to get those crucial final goals. Despite the hard work and team effort Highway took the win 42-41.

travelled to bottom of the table Godiva this week. Hinckley started with pace and precision taking an early lead from some great drives into the shooting circle by GA Lucy Marsden.

The defensive duo of Lucy Chapman and Bethany Willars were tight on the Godiva shooters, putting pressure on and capitalising on the few missed shots, claiming the rebounds to send the ball flowing court.

WD Caron Ogden had space to link seamlessly with the attack. A change of personnel in the third quarter saw Annis Pears slot well into Hinckley defence and with Bethany Willars’ versatility switching to GA giving different options in attack.

In the final quarter Godiva switched their defence line up and they piled on the pressure to stem the flow of the feeds into the Hinckley shooters. But persistence paid off for Hinckley’s attack. Nicole Wallace as WA and Beth Thurairajah at Centre played with determination and patience around the shooting circle waiting for the right pass in for Carole Payne and Bethany to shoot to goal. Hinckley secured a 42-30 and a well-deserved PoM for Nicole Wallace.

took on Earlsdon Highway for their first sunny game of the season. It was a low scoring game with the Hinckley winning 6-0 after the first quarter. The defence kept putting on the pressure throughout the game and only conceded one goal in the first half. Hinckley kept working hard in attack and kept calm in the wind with short, sharp passes throughout the court. The C’s took the win in the end with a down the centre final score of 24-9. Player of the match went to Lucy Ibbetson in GS for her great movement and shooting.

team enjoyed the sunshine this weekend which lifted their spirits going against top of the league Cov North Warwick.

Great work round the attacking circle by Maddie Hanley and Tracey Pallett kept Hinckley D possession against some tough defence but unfortunately couldn’t convert all their opportunities into goals. Tracey did earn herself player of the match though, showing her versatility at centre and goal attack.

The D team had some great level-headed play, always getting the ball down to Hinckley’s attacking end after intercepts/forced errors by fantastic defence team Lucy Mortiboys, Kelly Bennett and Anna Clayden. Hinckley’s shooters just couldn’t get the conversions so the 31-15 defeat didn’t reflect the amount of effort and possession Hinckley D had throughout. A special thank you to Eboni Clarke and Jo Rawle from F team playing the whole match after some lastminute injuries.

played Griff & Coton D on Saturday. There was great movement up the court, keeping pressure on the opposition. Emma

Brookes, Becky Kenney and Holly Pryor worked well together passing between each other and getting interceptions. The shooters worked well together, using the circle well and communicating with Leah Webster earning a well deserved POM. The team also showed great defending in the goal third, good pressure put on throughout but the game ended in a 45-15 defeat for Hinckley.

Fplayed Offchurch D away in an early game. Expecting it to be a tough match after losing by 20 last time Hinckley did not have high expectations. However, play started, and the first two quarters went goal for goal finishing 12-12 at half time. Becky Hamilton at GK read the game very well with many interceptions and rebounds, accompanied by Donna Edwards at GD with her persistent energy, and both forced Offchurch’s attack to make more errors.

Coupled with Charlotte Pinkham at WD who was also able to make many intercepts and turn the ball back to the attack. During the third quarter a few unforced errors by Hinckley meant they went behind by two goals. Player of the match Eboni Clarke at GA had amazing movement in the circle and made opportunities from centre passes. GS Anita King created lots of space by coming out of the circle to gain distance passes into GA and remained composed under the constant pressure of a huge GK. WA Jo Rawle was constantly moving giving options to all attacking play. Susie Jones playing C had awesome energy throughout against a very feisty opponent. During the last quarter Hinckley lost a bit of momentum and unfortunately the gap between them increased and Offchurch went on to win 28-23. A frustrating end as it was a very close match but Hinckley were happy with their performance.
