Let battle recommence... Medieval festival is back after two-year break
TICKETS for the 2022 Bosworth Medieval Festival are now on sale as the action-packed weekend returns with two days of entertainment for the whole family.
The event makes a welcome return in August after a two-year, Covid-enforced lay-off.
The two-day event – which attracts thousands of visitors, reenactors and traders – will take place on Saturday and Sunday, August 20-21 at the Leicestershire County Council-run Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre, near Sutton Cheney.
Tickets are valid for the whole weekend, which means visitors can come on either or both days for no extra cost.
Once through the gates, all events except author talks are free of charge.
The family friendly festival features battle reenactments by the Wars of the Roses Federation, including a 20-minute recreation of the Battle of Bosworth on both afternoons.
There will also be living history encampments to explore, archery, cannon fire demonstrations, medieval falconry demonstrations, musicians, the King’s Executioner, Knight School, a storyteller, guided tours, author talks, a medieval craft market, medieval cooking demonstrations and food tasting, hands-on games and competitions for children, as well as entry to the award-winning exhibition and free parking.
Destrier’s horsemen and women return with their mounted skill at arms and cavalry display and the fascinating Death of Richard III presentation. They will also play a major role in the Battle of Bosworth re-enactments, representing Richard III and his rival Henry Tudor and their standard bearers on the battlefield.
The weekend’s full programme is still being confirmed and more attractions will be added in the coming weeks to ensure Bosworth Medieval Festi- val returns with a bang this year.
Councillor Christine Radford, county council cabinet member for heritage, leisure and arts, said: “We’re delighted to be able to welcome Bosworth Medieval Festival back to our events calendar in August after two years without it.
“It is a great event with lots of activities for all the family, which attracts people from all over the UK and further afield and is always one of the highlights of the summer.
“Leicestershire has a rich and proud heritage to showcase and the Bosworth Medieval Festival does just that, as well as commemorating the Battle of Bosworth.
“The tickets represent great value for money, as they allow visitors the chance to spend the whole weekend taking in the medieval sights, sounds and experiences. It will be a great event for residents and visitors alike.”
