It’s Ace! Meet sci-fi stars (and Daleks)
COMIC CON WILL BE RAISING MONEY FOR CHARITY
DOCTOR Who fans will have the time of their lives at an event taking place next month.
Sophie Aldred, who played Ace in the show, plus roving Daleks, will be appearing at the first Sci-Fi Ball Comic Con in Hinckley, on Saturday, July 9.
The event will be raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and also features actors who have appeared in fan favourites from Star Trek to Harry Potter.
Special guest Sophie was appearing in Fiddler on the Roof with Topol when she landed the role she was to become famous for.
She played Ace alongside seventh Doctor, Sylvester McCoy, from 1987 to 89 and is returning as the character with the latest incarnation of the Time Lord next year.
She has also presented programmes such as Corners, Melvin and Maureen’s Music-a-grams and Words and Pictures.
She can be heard providing the voice of Tom in CBeebies’ Tree Fu Tom.
Visitors will also be able to see roving Daleks at the event.
As Dalek Sec and Dalek Oswin trundle around, visitors have the chance to interact with them or pose for a selfie or two.
The star-studded line-up will also include Caroline Munroe, a Bond girl in The Spy Who Loved Me and star of a string of Hammer Horror films.
Also attending will be Jerome
Blake, who has played seven different roles in the Star Wars franchise, and Carolyn Seymour, who has appeared in sci-fi shows including Star Trek: The Next Generation and Quantum Leap.
In addition, local cosplayer Matthew Wright will be appearing as Batman.
Attractions will include traders with a wide selection of merchandise, Harry Potter wand workshops, a retro video game area and a cosplay competition.
There will be a sci-fi pub quiz, and autograph sessions with the stars.
Anne Lindup, company chief
executive of the organisers, said: “SFB events is delighted to bring its special brand of Comic Con to Hinckley.
“Sci-fi, cosplay, traders, computer gaming and guests from Star Wars, Star Trek and voices of computer games.
“Come and have a fun day out and help us raise money for Teenage Cancer Trust.”
