Baker nets win in series opener

LAST TUESDAY saw Shackersto­ne AC stage round 1 of their Rising Sun sponsored Members League series fished ion the Monthills & Basin section of the Ashby canal. Competitor­s had decent weather and were in search of 10 points for a win down to 1 over five rounds with only the best four to count and with the top 12 points qualifiers fishing a Grand Final on week six.

The winner of this round on peg 9 was Phil Baker who fed worm & maggot to the far ledge and fished worm or maggot on the hook. He was rewarded with a nice bream around the 2.5lbs mark plus several decent skimmers caught on and off during the match. When they dried up, small rudd obliged to see him end well clear with 5lbs 12ozs and 10 points.

Second place on peg 10 went to Doug Dimbleby with 3lbs 9ozs and 9 points and third for this round on peg 7 was Andy Morton who ended with 3lbs 1oz and 8 points.

Shackersto­ne AC fished an Open match on Sunday on the Hags to Jockey section of the Ashby canal where they were protected from the strong gusty winds by high hedging, which really helped while the fish were tightly shoaled and weights were pretty close.

The winner on peg 9 was Doug Dimbleby who fed and fished his usual bread attack and managed six decent skimmers from the far shelf together with small rudd and roach to end with 3lbs 5ozs.

Second place went to Hubert Noar and third spot was taken by John Gamble.

Measham AC got their Club sponsored Open Midweek League Series underway last Wednesday fishing the Ashtree & Green Lane sections of the Ashby canal in fairly good conditions which were not too hot. Here competitor­s compete over six qualifying rounds, best 4 to count with 20 points for a win plus an extra 5 points for winning the section with the top 15 qualified fishing the Grand Final on week seven.

The winner of this round on peg 55 was Tamworth based angler Darren Massey who fed squatt and pinkie to the far shelf and alternated pinkie and maggot on the hook. His reward was one decent bream around the 2lbs mark together with small rudd, perch and roach to end the night with 2lbs 12ozs and 25 valuable points.

Second placed went to Oakthorpe based angler John Wainwright, third was Tamworth angler Jamie South.

Sunday sees Shackersto­ne AC stage their Annual Members Richardson Cup, draw 7.45am at the Rising Sun - please book in by 6pm Friday with either Andy Morton or John Gamble.
