A developer has submitted an application to build up to 100 homes on agricultural land at the edge of a village.

Jelsons has applied to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council to build the homes in a field off Hunts Lane, in Desford.

They would have two to five bedrooms and 40 per cent would be classed as affordable.

The government define these as homes which can be for either rent or sale, and for those whose needs are not met by the market.

It includes different tenures, including social rent, affordable rent and shared ownership.

Two greens would also be created, according to planning documents, one in the middle of the new estate and the second to the south-east, which would have a play area.

The company is seeking outline permission for the scheme, which would see it approved in principle, with the concrete details to be ironed out at a later stage.

The site is included in the Desford Neighbourhood Plan, meaning it has been earmarked to be built on.

However, some residents feel they have already had enough homes built in their village and should not have to put up with any more. Posting in a local Facebook group, one villager said: “Desford sadly is very different now from the quiet village it was when I moved here 26 years ago.

“Makes me equally very sad and angry.”

Access to the site would be via Hunts Lane, planning documents show, which has raised concerns about road safety.

A second large development is being considered for the village.

Housebuilder Davidsons has applied for permission to construct 120 homes on Ashfield Farm in Kirkby Road.

That site is not far from the village school and a recreation ground.

It is the fourth attempt to build on the land, and concerns have also been raised about the large amount of extra traffic the homes would cause.
