AFC add forward to their squad

-

HINCKLEY AFC have completed the signing of experienced forward Joe Obi from Atherstone Town.

Obi was part of the Adders side that won the Division One title last season, and has featured a further 21 times for them at step five this season.

An experienced forward primarily, he is also comfortable playing at centre back and adds versatility to the playing squad as well as his experience and title-winning know-how.

Manager Joe Conneely said: “We’re delighted to have Joe with us. He brings huge experience to us having won the league last year with Atherstone.

“Once we knew Joe was available, Courtney worked hard to bring him in as quickly as we could. We’re really pleased he’s joined us.”

Obi first joined Atherstone in 2018, and has spent much of the last five seasons there either side of a brief spell with Lichfield City.

He scored more than 50 times in more than 100 games for them, including in their memorable FA Vase win away to Stockton Town in 2020 which Joe McNulty was also a part of.

Before that, he spent five years at Bolehall Swifts and has also featured for Heather St John’s and Coton Green, amassing nearly 300 Division One appearances across the last 10 seasons and scoring more than a century of goals.

• The Hinckley AFC supporters’ group will be collecting donations for local foodbanks at AFC’s home match against Ashby Ivanhoe on Saturday February 25.

A club spokesman said: “As a community club, we are always looking to help local people and will be taking donations at our next home match. Everything collected will be donated to Hinckley foodbank to help those in need in our area.

“Food in any tins, biscuits and cereal is particularly useful, alongside tea, coffee, sugar and long life milk. Non-food items, such as laundry/ detergents and toiletries, are also welcome.”
