EXHIBITION PUTS TOWN ON THE MAP
AN EXHIBITION capturing some familiar landmarks has opened at the Atkins Gallery.
Hinckley Illustrated runs until March 22, featuring work from the likes of Rose Allinson, of the Ten 2 Gallery; Laura Silveira Illustration; Alex Russel and Elliott Wynd-Jennings, of Brio Media, and Graham Luker.
Mr Russel and Mr Wynd-Jennings, from Brio Media, said: “To have the opportunity to digitally illustrate some of Hinckley’s most iconic buildings was a pleasure and we’re so pleased to be exhibiting them”
Also on show are the historical works of Cicely Pickering, who worked in the 1920s through to the 1940s. Pickering provided illustrations for Footpath Rambles Around Hinckley, published in 1930, and The Cradle & Home of the Hosiery Trade, published in 1940.
Hinckley & District Museum and Burbage Heritage Group have lent their Cicely Pickering collection alongside modern reproductions from Hinckley District Past and Present (HDPP).
Paul Gardner, from HDPP, said: “Following a meeting with Cicely’s family in 2018 HDPP was given permission to reproduce and sell her works to help raise money for local good causes. These can be found in Jaspers of Hinckley.
“What a very talented lady she was. We are sure she would be happy to discover her works are finding a new interest today.”
The exhibition will also feature illustrations for a forthcoming series of heritage walks leaflets, produced by the Borough Council and to be launched in the spring.
Mr Luker has produced illustrations for the leaflets.
Fellow exhibitor and illustrator Laura Silveira has also helped to create the leaflets.
She said: “I am very pleased to be joining forces with the council in promoting the upcoming launch of resources for Heritage Walks. As a local illustrator I have enjoyed mapping our beautiful market town by exploring on foot, as I hope others will with the aid of these new materials.”
Visitors to Atkins Building can see another exhibition at the same time in Atkins Gallery featuring the artworks from the Time out for Carers group.
This group for carers ran by carers meet regularly in the Earl Shilton Community House and produce group and individual artworks.
Atkins Gallery is open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and is free to enter. For more information email:
