Group hands out cash to 12 good causes
THERE was large gathering at The Greyhound pub recently for the annual Local Good Causes Presentation night for Hinckley District Past & Present.
The night was hosted by the group founder Paul Gardner who some eight years ago started the group quite by chance along with his wife Sue.
“We never planned to become a fundraising group, it just happened that way,” Paul said.
He added that this year was the groups eighth year and to date had raised over £25,000 for local good causes. A very proud moment for the group.
Twelve local good causes were chosen by members of Hinckley District Past & Present to receive a donation from the groups ‘Local Good Causes & Heritage Fund.’
Every year HDPP raises funds for local good causes by staging raffles, prize draws, presenting local heritage talks and hosting their own social nights. The chosen causes this year was a wide selection of causes locally.
Paul continued: “As the night progressed it quickly became apparent to all assembled that none of the good causes could operate at all without volunteers.
“Every single good cause relied on people giving their time freely to make a difference. After the official presentations were over there was chance for all the good causes to get to know one another and talk about their work.”
The lucky recipients were:
4th Hinckley St. Marys Scouts, 12th Hinckley Methodist Guides, 6th Hinckley St. Francis Scouts, RE Engage, Dial-a-Ride, Hinckley & District Museum, Hinckley Salvation Army, St.Francis Lunch Club, Lawrence House, Hinckley Branch of The Royal British Legion, Hinckley Mencap, and Pathways Centre of Hinckley Baptist Church.
