‘Let’s celebrate our NHS with its own special day!’

BOSWORTH MP PROMISES TO TAKE MYLA’S CAMPAIGN TO GOVERNMENT MINISTERS

A Hinckley woman behind a campaign for a national day celebrating the NHS has enlisted the help of her MP.

Myla Godwin has called on government for a national “Thank You NHS Day” - starting this year.

The proposal suggests that July 5, 2023 - the 75th anniversary of the NHS - would be ideal.

One of the ideas is that pupils could go to school in an NHS-related outfit and have a day dedicated to learning about the work and history of the NHS.

There is also an idea for the government to call on all supermarkets, bars, restaurants and shops to offer NHS workers a discount on this day, as they did during the pandemic.

In her meeting with Dr Luke Evans, Conservative MP for Bosworth, Myla spoke about how her campaign to pay tribute to the NHS has grown, with a petition reaching 650 signatures so far.

Another suggestion within the petition is for the nation to undertake a one-minute silence to remember the NHS and social care workers who lost their lives during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Evans promised to support Myla’s efforts and write to both the Health Secretary, Steve Barclay, and Education Secretary, Gillian Keegan, to raise awareness of the campaign.

Myla said: “I started my campaign because I believe we should have a special day to say a special thank you to all the NHS workers who not only worked extremely hard during Covid and put their own lives at risk, but are always there for us to help keep us safe.

“All NHS staff are heroes and a celebration of their hard work on the 75th anniversary of the NHS would show them how much they are appreciated by us all.”

Dr Evans said “It was really great to catch up with Myla and hear all about how her campaign has progressed.

“Having started my working life in the NHS and with my whole family working in medicine and healthcare, the NHS holds a special place in my heart, so it was a pleasure to write to the health and education secretaries to share Myla’s campaign.

“The 75th anniversary of the NHS later this year is a perfect opportunity to reflect on the tremendous

work of health and social care staff across the nation who have worked tirelessly for our communities.”
