Raising funds for Dementia UK

-

WOW, well what a night was had by everyone at Ashby Road Sports Club whilst holding a 70s and 80s disco charity event all in aid of Dementia UK, writes Peter Saunt, Local Dementia UK Ambassador Volunteer who organised the evening.

The whole night was buzzing and electrified from start to finish.

I was completely overwhelmed with the turn out and generosity of the 150 people who attended.

A total amount of £2,600 was raised.

No one wanted to leave and I’ve had none stop messages asking when the next event will be.

People living with Dementia now stands at over one million in this country and it is seen to be at 1.5 million by 2025.

There is still no cure for Dementia which is causing concern.

The success of the night sends out a strong message from everyone who attended that they have either lost a loved one to Dementia or have a loved one living with it.

Unless you have lived this journey, no one has any idea the trauma it brings to families trying to cope through the stress of Dementia, and this is where Dementia UK comes in with their Admiral Nurses, to help support the families with emotion, sign posting where help is needed, coping mechanisms and many more whys of supporting.

We have a telephone line, staffed seven days a week by specialists Dementia trained nurses.

But all of this comes at a cost. Each nurse is carefully selected and trained to the best quality before being placed into the community, at a cost of £60k per nurse per year.

We only have three nurses here in Leicestershire so it is vital that we continue to fight and raise the vital funds that’s urgently needed.

The night wouldn’t have been a success without the generosity and support of local businesses, who were more than happy to make donations for superb raffle prizes.

I would like to thank the following for their great generosity which helped raise the amazing £2,600.

Thank you to Courtney at Tesco, Mill street Motors, Barwell, The iron Generation Gym, Barwell, Strad from Chris’s Fish and Chips Barwell, Paul at Holiday Lounge, Hinckley, who always comes up trumps, Royal Arms Sutton Cheney, Hercules Revived restaurant, Sutton Cheney, The Blackhorse restaurant, Market Bosworth, Softleys Restaurant, Market Bosworth and Bosworth Hall.

Finally my upmost grateful thanks to one of the best DJs around and that is Matt from MES mobile disco who was amazing and the local awesome group Hometown for their show.

Finally if anyone feels to need to talk about Dementia or would like to discuss a loved one then call our help line on 0800 888 6678 or email helpline@dementiauk.org or peterstuartsaunt@gmail.com
