Market Bosworth Rotary Club
Rotary youth competitions organised by the Market Bosworth Club have been a tremendous success this year.
The club’s youth competitions lead, John Whitehead, said: “Our club is very keen to support local youth activities and we offer local schools and organisations the opportunity to enter a number of events.
“These include Young Writer, Young Artist, Young Photographer, Young Musician, Youth Speaks and Young Chef.
“For Young Writer we had an entry of over 40 pieces of work for the subject ‘Peace.’ The winning entry will go forward to the district final, and hopefully into regional and national finals.
“The judges commented on the high standard of entries, a credit to the St Margaret’s staff and pupils who submitted the bulk of the entries.
“The winning entry, a poem, was written by Isla Clarke, a Year 4 pupil at St Margaret’s and the runner-up was a short story by Felix Forman, also Year 4 at St Margaret’s.”
And so to Young Artist.
Says John: “Banksy, Picasso, Turner, watch out! Our Young Artist competition, produced a spectacular array of entries. The theme this year was sunrise and sunset.” Our winners are as follows: Junior category aged up to 10 years
3rd - Max, Year 4, St Margaret’s Intermediate category aged 11-13
Winner - Danxi, aged 13, The Market Bosworth School
The judges were impressed by the high standard of the work and wish to thank the pupils and staff for their enthusiastic participation and large number of entries.
The two winners will have their work submitted to the district finals, and hopefully on to regional and national finals.”
A highly impressive group of talented youngsters from around the East Midlands competed in the Rotary District 1070 Young Musician Competition finals.
What a great mix of styles. Bassman William opened for the juniors with a powerful, funky version of James Brown’s I Feel Good.
Such a great rocking opening! Micah entertained on the piano and Constance impressed greatly on the clarinet. Section winner Harriet, rounding up the juniors, gave us the sweetest rendition of Elgar’s Chanson de Matin. In the vocal section, Bella impressed, not only with her voice but the personality she brought to bear upon the songs that she so adeptly made her own. The Bench mark had been set for the others to emulate and they didn’t disappoint.
The intermediates set about showing what they can do. Ava (cornet), Suzanne (Alto Sax), Rebecca (Piano), Rhian (Piano), Mays (Piano) brought a variety of textures and subtleties, demonstrating the talents that brought them this far in the competition.
Alto-Saxophonist Baker Mbogo was the crowd-pleasing winner of this section, playing with maturity way beyond his years.
And so to the seniors. The standard was every bit as exceptional as hoped. Celeste (Trumpet), Miles (Flute), Rica (Piano), Evie (Clarinet), Joshua (French Horn), Nathanial (Trombone) and Emily (Vocal) gave some splendid recitals, none more so than pianist Filipe who impressed with pieces by Haydn and Mendelssohn, both played completely from memory!
Heidi was the popular winner of the Senior Vocal section, definitely one for the future!
What a great day! Thanks everyone, the musicians, hosts Dixie Grammar School and the Rotary team that helped make it a day to remember.
