Handicap series providing close competiton

ROUND three of the Mini -Series Handicap competitio­n continues to provide some close table tennis.

The game between Market Bosworth C and Goons 1 saw the Braunstone side going 5-2 up and then Bosworth responded with firstly young Harry Rowell (MBC) winning a close set against Phil Wood (Goons 1) and then Stephen Mellor (MBC) defeating Ian Whetherley (Goons1) 11-5 in the fifth to bring the scores to Goons 1 5 MBC 4.

In the same group Queen’s Mira continue to perform well , collecting a useful 7-2 victory over G Ward D with Ian Heavey (QM) being named player of the match. The other game in this group saw QTTC 1 overcome G Ward F 8-1 to lead the group.

Group B saw QTTC 3 see off Market Bosworth B 6-3, the closest game of the night was between Jeff Oddy (QTTC 3) and Dave Knappett (MBB). GW E collected a useful 7-2 win over QTTC 4. The outstandin­g match saw Mark Perkins (GWE) fight out a classic game with Steve Bessant (QTTC4) finally running out as winner by 11-8 in the final game. Hit and Hope B found GWB too strong, losing 7-2.

In Group A Market Bosworth A were able to get the better of GWC with Pete Muir(MBA) winning all his games, teammates Harry Thomas and Brian Kinsella both collecting one win each to take the victory by 5-4.

QTTC 2 lost to Hit and Hope A by 7-2 with Robert Sedols starring with three good wins. In the other fixture, Group A GWA fell victim to the inform Goons 2, who made good use of their handicap to run out winners by 7-2.

Currently the front runners in each Group are GPA – Hit and Hope A on 24 points, in GP B , GWE lead with 26 points and in GPC QTTC1 top the chart with 25 points.
