Majority of children secure places at preferred schools

-

PARENTS across Leicestershire have been finding out which primary school their child will attend this autumn.

With 7,169 applications received this year, a record 98.9% of children across the county have been offered a place at one of their top three school preferences.

More than 94% of youngsters due to start school for the first time have secured a place at their first preference school, with 3.7% being offered their second preference and 1% being offered their third preference primary school.

For children moving from infant to junior school (years two to three), 100% of pupils secured their first preference school.

Jane Moore, director of children and family services at Leicestershire County Council, said: “It is fantastic to see the vast majority of children in Leicestershire get a place at one of their top three primary school preferences, and especially to see so many first choice places awarded. We’re pleased for everyone with a successful outcome and recognise also that not every pupil has secured one of the places they had hoped for.

“We are ready to support any families who need advice and encourage them to get in touch with us as soon as possible to discuss alternative school options, including how to make an appeal. Don’t forget that for any school refused, you will be put on that school’s waiting list and if a place becomes available, you’ll automatically be contacted.

“I’d like to wish all children starting school for the first time a successful and enjoyable start to their schooling.”
