More than 90 candidates are standing for hotly-contested council seats
MORE than 90 candidates will be standing for election to Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council in next month’s local elections.
Voters will head to the polls on Thursday, May 4 and all 34 council seats are up for grabs.
The borough council is expected to be hotly contested between the local Conservative and Liberal Democrat groups.
For the past 20 years, control of the borough council has swung between the rival parties, with the Lib Dems taking it back from the Tories at the last election.
The party currently holds 21 of the council’s seats, while the Conservatives form the main opposition with 10.
Labour has just two councillors on the authority, while the final post is filled by an independent. However, the Conservatives are the only party eyeing up the possibility of a full house this time around.
They have a full cohort of 34 candidates vying for your vote.
The Liberal Democrats are close behind, however, with 29 candidates. Labour has put forward 15 hopefuls while the Green
Party and Reform UK have four apiece.
There is also one candidate standing for UKIP.
Elected councillors will then take the responsibility for a range of services in the local area, such as housing, planning, waste collection and social care.
They will also be involved in the process of ensuring the council’s budget is in order and setting the Council Tax rates for coming years.
Residents will need to take ID such as a passport or driver’s licence with them to be able to vote.
