Disruption expected as town pipe work gets under way this week
WORK to replace water pipes around Hinckley town centre is under way, causing potential delays for traffic in the town.
Severn Trent workers began a £310,000 upgrade to the water network on Monday, replacing more than 830 metres of pipes.
The work will be focused in the Castle Street and Mount Road areas of the town and is expected to continue until early September.
The company said the works would make sure the local network was “more resilient to issues such as bursts and leaks”.
The replacement of the pipes is part of wider project in the area, which includes a £15 million scheme to create new wetlands that will improve the waterways in the area, improving the quality of water and keeping them flowing.
It will also provide a better habitat for wildlife.
Lisa Orme, from Severn Trent, said: “We are undertaking this project to replace old pipes, upgrading the system and ensure a reliable water supply both now and into the future. “We understand that roadworks can be inconvenient but are necessary to make sure that we can complete this work as quickly and safely as possible.
“I’d like to thank everyone in advance for their patience while

“Access to the area’s schools will be maintained at all times, as well as access to the hospital, homes and shops.
