Team enjoys success home and away

WHILST the UK Cycle Race scene is slowly gathering pace for the 2023 season, once again Team Enable (M.I.Racing McCann) have been competing abroad with success.

This time it was former European Champion, and 22 times British Champion Roy Hunt, who was the star. Roy was competing in the Spanish Mt Bike 2 stage Internatio­nal race MTB-Ouerto de la Alpujarra at Lanjaron - 30km south of Granada. A 6km Time Trial followed by a 42km Cross Country race, against top Internatio­nal competitio­n, Roy placed a brilliant third overall.

Nearer home four of the team competed in round 2 of the National Mt Bike series held at Margham Park, near Port Talbot, S Wales. Hinckley member Kirby Bennett finished 6th in the 60+ race, with team mate Tim Stowe from Wellesbour­ne in 9th position and in the race for riders 50+ Nick Whitley finished 7th and Nick Popham 9th.

Competing in the Hitchin Nomads 25 mile Hilly 3 up Team Time Trial, for Road Bikes near Cambridge, the team of Mark Wise (Warrior Games Gold Medallist), Andy Oliver and Steve Palmer, riding his first race for over three years finished a very creditable fourth fastest.

Also at the weekend was the Teams first Open promotion of the season the “Omloop-Mitchell“Road/ Offroad event, at Flecknoe, S Warks, which attracted riders from all over the country, held for the first time in very wet and muddy conditions, the winner came all the way from Kendal in the Lake District, and will hold the Peter Baum Memorial Trophy for one year.

The Trophy was presented to the winner by Judy Baum, and the event was sponsored by POLYPIPE. Matt Holmes finished 2nd and Crispin Doyle 3rd, Peter Busby was the highest places Team Enable rider in 18th place.

The teams next open promotion will be the B.M.C.R. National Handicap Championsh­ips, on June 25 over a distance of 56 miles, with H.Q. at Napton S.Warks.
