Barwell and Earl Shilton get season off to winning start

BARWELL got their Everards Leicesters­hire and Rutland Cricket League Division Two campaign off to a great start on Saturday with a four wicket away win over Enderby.

Winning the toss they put their hosts into bat and made a great start when opener Anil Mandadi was run out by Danny Moran for just five runs leaving Enderby on 6-1.

More wickets quickly followed and Luke Bernard with 37 runs was the only Enderby player to reach double figures as they were all out for just 82 runs. Pick of the Barwell bowlers were Kasun Abeysinghe with 3-11 and Liam O’Rourke with 3-47.

In reply Barwell lost early wickets and were wobbling at 19-4 but skipper Jack Smith steadied the ship with 22 not out as his side reached 87-6 to clnch the four wcket victory.

In the same league Hinckley Amateur saw their opening game fall victim to the weather and they will hope to get underway this Saturday when they play host to

Loughborou­gh Carillon.

Meanwhile Earl Shilton Town CC 1st XI kicked off their Division Three West season with a good win away at Loughborou­gh Greenfield­s.

Restrictin­g Greenfield­s to 173-8 off 45 overs, Shilton chased down the total and secured an excellent win with two balls of the innings to spare. Earl Shilton finished on 174-4 off 44.4 overs.

Next week the 1st XI take on Ratby Town 1st XI at Keats Lane hoping to build on their good start to the new season.

Unfortunat­ely after some good individual performanc­es Shilton 2nd XI lost at home to Hathern CC.

Batting first Shilton reached 147 all out off 39.1 overs. Shiva Chopra 65 and Hemanth Kokkirsla 31 were the top scorers.

Hathern reached the total of 148-5 off 34.1 overs. Hemanth Kokkirsla was best bowler with figures of 4-34.

The 2nd XI play away next week at Grace Dieu Park 1st XI where they will be looking for their first win of the season.
