Let them eat cake - and raise cash for a good cause

-

THE community has risen to the challenge of eating cake and raising money for a good cause.

Organiser Jackie Payne held a series of cake sales with the latest taking the total above £7,000 in aid for Ukraine.

Jackie said: “I was initially a little anxious about organising another due to the financial times people are coping with.

“But my goodness, why on earth was I worried? Yet again local people have well and truly risen to the occasion and shown their overwhelming generosity by turning out in large numbers and buying my cakes.

“What an amazing lot they all are community spirit is certainly very much alive and thriving in Hinckley and Bosworth.

“Initially we raised £819.70 in two hours - a fantastic amount and thank you to all of you who were able to come along and support us on the Morning.”

Jackie continued: “I have received donations since then, as well as people buying the few cakes we had left so the total for this event is now a wonderful £1,004.70.”

The money has gone to the DEC and this link shows you how it is being spent to ease the suffering of families living in war torn Ukraine : https:// www.dec.org.uk/ukraine-one-year-on

Jackie added: “The full amount raised since the first of our three cake sales now stands at a magnificent £7,041.70 which demonstrates the generosity of our community and local businesses.

“Let us remember as well the support people are giving to displaced Ukrainians who have been welcomed into local communities and schools.

“I’ve been so humbled and impressed by the gratitude, resilience and dignity of those who have had to leave everything behind, including loved ones, as they settle into life here - waiting for the time they can return to their homeland.

“Saying ‘thank you’ does not seem enough, none of this would have been possible with you, the People, Local Businesses, family and friends.”
