There’s a buzz about return of bee sessions at county beauty spot

-

Bradgate Park will be buzzing with excitement when a new season of beekeeping sessions starts within the beauty spot’s secret garden.

The interactive sessions, led by Leicester business Honey Craft, will take place in the park’s Walled Gardens - which are not usually open to visitors.

Also known as the Kitchen Gardens, they are part of Bradgate House, the home of Lady Jane Grey.

The sessions, which first took place last summer, will begin again on Saturday, May 20 – World Bee Day.

The event aims to showcase the vital role bees and other pollinators play in our ecosystem while offering a variety of fun, educational and engaging activities for all ages.

The sessions are led by expert beekeepers, and participants will be kitted up in a suit and gloves before delving into the inner workings of a hive.

They will learn about honey production, bee communication and the critical role these insects play in our food system.

Liga Orlovska, of Honey Craft, said: “We must recognise the essential role pollinators play in maintaining the balance of our ecosystem and nurturing our environment.

“As a passionate beekeeper, I am thrilled to invite everyone to join us on World Bee Day at Bradgate Park.

“Together, we’ll explore the symphony of nature in this beautiful setting.”

The celebration will also feature a range of free activities, including a storytelling session and theatrical workshop with actress Chandni Mistry, as well as pollinator-inspired crafts such as creating butterfly wings from recycled paper. Amy Beaumont, Bradgate Park’s learning and engagement manager, said: “With over 1,000 acres of landscape supporting a huge variety of habitats and plant life, engaging our visitors with the many ways that we can protect nature is an important part of what we do at the Bradgate Park Trust.

“This year, we’ll be shining a spotlight on importance of these fascinating pollinators and the many ways we can support them.”

Meet The Bees sessions cost £35 per person and will take place every Sunday, from May 28, until September. You can book at:
