ORGANISERS of the Leicestershire Curry Awards are inviting diners to nominate their favourite restaurants.

The sixth annual Leicestershire Curry Awards will take place in September and aim to celebrate the best Indian food across eight categories.

These are: Restaurant of the Year; Best Pub Restaurant; Best Vegetarian Restaurant; Best Fine Dining Restaurant; Best Takeaway; Best Street Food and Best New Restaurant.

New for this year is the Best Indian Catering category, for any restaurant which has excelled in catering for large and small-scale events.

This year is the first time the awards will be operating under the new name of Leicestershire Curry Awards – they were previously the Leicester Curry Awards – allowing entries from across the county.

There will be two winners named in each category – one from the city and one from the county.

Public nominations will decide the top five restaurants in each category. It is then up to a panel of mystery judges, who will each be assigned a number of the top five restaurants/takeaways in each category.

Awards founder Romail Gulzar, pictured, said: “This year’s competition looks set to be the most hotly contested so far, due to the vast number of entries we are expecting.

“I’m looking forward to seeing more entries than ever before after opening it up to the whole of Leicestershire.

“If you have a favourite Indian restaurant that does a brilliant biryani or a delicious daal, then now’s your chance to nominate them and show your appreciation.”

The charities being supported by the awards this year are Leicestershire Police HQ Memorial Garden Project and CRP – Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed.

Nominations are open until July 24. To make a nomination, go to:
