THE final events in the local Table Tennis calendar have taken place, firstly the Senior Individual Championships were held at the George Ward Centre, again there was a good entry for the events.

The Open singles final was contested by Adam Pettitt (G Ward) and Andy Lebutt (G Ward). Pettitt took no prisoners and managed a very comfortable first set win before Lebutt replied taking the second set.

This was not the year to add a new name to the Open Singles trophy though, as Pettitt went on to win the next two sets, beating Lebutt 3/1 to become Hinckley’s Champion of 2023. The scores were 11-6, 8-11, 11-7 & 11-6.

The Open doubles was a closely contested affair between Mark Perkins (G Ward) and partner Andy Lebutt (G Ward) against Jason Woodfield (Goons) and his partner Nick Raynor (G Ward). The GWE pairing of Perkins and Lebutt took the first game 11-6, then Woodfield and Rayner took the second 8-11. The G ward pair then pushed ahead claiming the next two sets 11-7 and 11-6 to claim the title.

The Vetts singles saw Lebutt taking part in his third final, but the night was not his as he lost his third final this time to Mark Rose (Market Bosworth). The scores were 11-6, 8-11, 1-7 & 11-2.The trophy this year has been dedicated in the memory of a very-much missed player in Hinckley - Richard Chesters. A great ambassador of the local league and always a valued and reliable member of the Midland Vetts League squad. Thank you, Richard, for all you did .

Thanks to everyone involved on the night - setter uppers, umpires, organisers, players, and spectators. It was an excellent night with some surprise results along the way. And certainly some fantastic table tennis was observed during play.

The Holt Cup final was contested between two G Ward sides, GWE and GWB. The ‘E’ team proved too strong for their clubmates running out winners by 5 sets to 1. The match of the night was between Nick Raynor (GWB) and Phil Pagett (GWE), it went all way to five games with Raynor coming on top 11-4 in the fifth to collect GWB’s only win of the evening. The victorious GWE team consisted of Andy Lebutt, Phil Pagett and Arun Jogi.

The Dry Logic Cup for second division sides was contested between QTTC2 and Hit and Hope B .It was a closely contested match with Queen’s TTC2 coming out on top by 8 sets to 1. Player of the match was Gary Carr who was well supported by colleagues Robin Entecott and Gary Rhodes. H&H B side was Ian Nixon, John Harrison, and their only set winner Steve Lawton.
