D-Day Darlings, Freddie Mercury and Fame at the Concordia Theatre
THE next few months promises to be an exciting time for Hinckley favourite, the Concordia Theatre, which has been entertaining locals and those from further afield for the last 50 years with all manner of performances, from opera to Othello.
Between now and September there is something for everyone, whether it’s the all-singing-all dancing flamboyance of a stage troupe that tickles your fancy or a heartwrenching adaptation of a cinematic classic, it’s all here.
This week, it’s time for the ‘D-Day Darlings Trio’ to visit to perform a wistful glut of songs from 1940s war time Britain. The group, known primarily from their semi-final placing on Britain’s Got Talent 10 years ago, are sure to take those both young and old on a stirring trip down memory lane.
When? Saturday, June 3. Doors open at 7.30pm
How much? Tickets cost £22.50 and with the trio being at Concordia for only one evening, you must act quickly, or hope for a cancellation, if you want to see them.
Next up, it’s a biggie, and time to ride your bicycles down in time for Mercury: The Ultimate Queen Tribute. Playing the part of the uniquely distinctive vocalist is 20-year-veteran Joseph Lee Jackson, who has even performed in front of the original Queen members Brian May and Roger Taylor.
When? Friday, June 9 and Saturday, June 10. Doors open at 7.30pm.

Following on from the mercurial ‘almost-Mercury,’ it’s a treat for fans of musicals and one for the parents. Fame: The Musical is bringing its much-loved stage show telling the story of the ups-and-downs of a cohort of students in the 1980s at New York City’s revered School of Performing Arts.

After another hefty dose of nostalgia, this time it’s the silver screen coming to the stage; the Shawshank Redemption, which has been adapted for stage by Owen O’Neill and Dave Johns. It chronicles the experiences of Andy Dufresne, a banker who is wrongly incarcerated and forms a friendship with a longterm inmate.
