Village road closure will send drivers on four-mile diversion
The road will be closed in both directions for a short period
AN upcoming road closure through a Leicestershire village will send motorists on a four-mile-long detour. A stretch of Watery Lane in Sheepy Magna close on Monday, June 19.
The road will be closed so carriageway patching work, which involves filling potholes or repairing deteriorated parts of the tarmac, can be undertaken. Leicestershire County Council said the closure, near Market Bosworth, is not expected to be in place for longer than one day.
Meanwhile, drivers will have to take a detour through the neighbouring village of Sheepy Parva, adding only an extra few minutes to their journeys. Find the full diversion below.
The county council said earlier this year that it was investing £17 million of this year’s budget into repairing its roads and will receive a further £3,156,400 from the central government towards road maintenance. The local authority carried out more than 3,500 repairs on roads and pavements between April 1 and November 30 last year.
But with the scale of the challenge increasing each year, the county council said previously that the Government funding simply does not cover it. Councillor Ozzy O’Shea, county council cabinet member for highways and transport said the additional funding “is unfortunately not sufficient to address the amount of wear and tear we see on our roads”.
