Teen race ace Jenkins joins team for the Porsche Sprint Challenge

-

PORSCHE Sprint Challenge GB race winner Will Jenkins is joining Desfordbased Team Parker Racing for his second year in the series.

The teenager started off in motocross before turning to karts, where he won the final round of the 2019 Motorsport UK Junior British Karting Championship and was also a front-runner in the European BNL Series.

The Staffordshire-based racer moved into cars the following season, scoring a pair of rookie podiums in the Ginetta Junior Championship, and finished fifth in the overall standings the following year.

In 2022, he moved to Ginetta GT5s and had an outstanding campaign, claiming six wins and 12 podiums in total, but narrowly missed out on first place by four points.

Continuing his rapid rise through the ranks, Jenkins moved to the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB last year, thanks to support from the Alliance Racing Young Driver Programme and Wera Tools.

He enjoyed his maiden victory at Donington

Park and had six podium places in total, finishing fifth in the standings in an extremely competitive season.

This time out, the youngster will compete as a Pro in the new RS class, as the series allows drivers to race the Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport model.

Again backed by Alliance and Wera, his eyes are firmly set on challenging for the drivers’ title, which has been clinched by Team Parker Racing drivers in each of the past two seasons.

Jenkins, 19, said: “I’m delighted to be staying on the Porsche Sprint Challenge GB grid for 2024 with the continued support of Alliance Racing and Wera Tools.

“We had a great first season together last year and I’m confident we can enjoy a lot of success in the upcoming season.

“Porsche put on a great championship with the Sprint Challenge GB and the introduction of the new Cayman GT4 RS model provides me with an exciting next step in my career.

“It’s a fantastic evolution of the car I drove last year and should provide some fantastic racing.

“I’m looking forward to working with Team Parker Racing.

“They are the most established and successful team in the domestic Porsche championships, and I’ve got no doubt they will provide me with everything I need to be fighting at the front of the grid this season.”

Team principal Stuart Parker said: “We’re very happy to welcome Will to the team for the 2024 Porsche Sprint Challenge GB season.

“He was a tough competitor last year and clearly has a lot of talent behind the wheel, so we are looking forward to working together and helping him take another step forward in his career.”
