Club issues help plea with ambitious project

-

HINCKLEY Rugby Club is issuing an appeal for extra volunteers and community-minded businesses to step forward and help deliver an ambitious sporting vision for the town.

Over the the last 10 years it has invested £1.2m in the Rugby Club complex facilities, has provided land for Hinckley Ladies Netball Club for their first permanent home and in 2023 took over the responsibility for Hinckley Town Cricket club and has plans to revive the cricket club’s fortunes.

Now the committee is planning to invest £500,000 in partnership with the Football Foundation to upgrade a 3G football pitch, which could be used for rugby as well as football. And it is also facilitating the building of a national standard boxing gym for the local community onsite.

A committee spokesperson said: “The 3G football pitch facility is now well used but needs updating and resurfacing and with the support of our local MP, Dr Luke Evans, who has written to the Football Development organisation on our behalf in pursuing grants to help funding some of this work.

“However we will also need to raise further funding and investment ourselves. We are looking for major local brands to join us in taking this vibrant club to the next level.

“We are a team made up solely of volunteers running a 31 acre site and would very much appreciate more help and input from within our local community. Our future plans will benefit the local community across all the age spectrums. “Hinckley Rugby Club now supports multiple sports for men, women, boys & girls, including multiple formats of rugby, netball, football, cricket and in the not too distant future boxing. It sits in the heart of the community with thousands of visitors a week enjoying the facilities for sporting and social occasions.

“We have taken the club from an ambitious community rugby club set in 9 acres to a sports complex that now boasts over 30 acres and a rugby team that plays in the National leagues.

“Our ambitions to further support the local community are endless. We are currently building two extra changing rooms, a kitchen extension and a rehab area to improve our current sporting provision and we are in the process of creating the Hinckley Rugby Community Foundation to support our delivery of rugby into the local schools.”
