Ex-guard is back in court for sentence

-

A former Leicester Crown Court security guard has been sentenced at his old workplace after a campaign of offending against his nephew.

The court heard how James Foxon, 57, had made threats against his brother’s son, smashed CCTV cameras at the Sapcote caravan site where they both lived and, in one instance, put his hands over his nephew’s throat.

The offending began in March last year and Foxon, now of The Mount, Cosby, was arrested by police in May.

The offending continued after he was released on police bail.

Foxon pleaded guilty to one charge of putting his nephew in fear of violence by harassment and was sentenced to a community order.

The offences covered by the charge included looking up at his nephew’s CCTV camera and running his finger across his throat.

On one occasion he wrote on Facebook that his nephew was “dicing with death”.

The court heard the offending had also had a negative affect on Foxon’s father, who lives on the caravan site with Foxon’s nephew.

Katya Saudek, representing Foxon, said the victim had since been arrested in relation to allegations from other family members.

She said: “The complainant in this case is now on police bail himself for assaulting the defendant’s brother and assaulting his uncle.

“That puts in perspective that his is an ongoing family dispute and there’s tit-for-tat on both sides.” She said her client, who has no previous convictions, was unable to pay a fine because he had recently lost his job and was now on benefits.

Judge William Harbage KC told Foxon: “I understand there’s a background here and that tensions within the family may be high. “This was not the way to behave and you should have known better.” Foxon was given a community order for two years, including 200 hours of unpaid work.

He was also given a five-year restraining order by the court preventing him from contacting his nephew.

I understand there’s a background here and that tensions within the family may be high. Judge William Harbage KC
