Work on next phase of tech park is under way
1M SQ FT OF FACILITIES ADDED TO THE MIRA SITE
CONSTRUCTION has begun on the latest phase of the development of MIRA Technology Park.
The work will add 1 million sq ft of research and development, innovation and engineering facilities to the 850-acre motor industry site off the A5 near Hinckley.
Sir John Peace, chairman of the Midlands Engine regional development partnership, attended a ground-breaking ceremony for Plot 9.
He said: “This milestone not only represents a significant economic opportunity for the region, with more than £60 million of high-value employment already present, but also signals a crucial next step in the evolution of both Mira Tech Park and the global industry it supports.
“This development is a testament to the commitment of fostering innovation, collaboration and sustainable growth, and is a key asset for the Midlands and UK’s innovation landscape.“
Tim Nathan, managing director for Mira Tech Park, said: “The commencement of this next phase marks a significant step forward in the realisation of our vision and a key milestone unlocking the next phase of the Tech Park.
“We celebrate not only the economic growth this brings but also the spirit of collaboration that has made it possible, further establishing Mira Tech Park as a globally attractive location and national asset.”
The project has been supported by Leicester and Leicestershire Enterprise Partnership and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.
This development is being delivered in a joint venture with real estate investor and developer Evans Randall Investors, with project delivery managed by Swanvale Developments. GMI is the construction company.
In October Horiba Mira opened a driving simulator centre.
Managers said the £4 million facility will significantly reduce the need for physical vehicle testing and prototypes and the associated carbon emissions.
