5 September 1697 A single French warship commanded by Captain Pierre Le Moyne d’iberville sinks two English warships and damages a third in hudson’s Bay. d’iberville eventually has to abandon his ship but immediatel­y proceeds to capture the valuable trading station at York Factory with his crew.
