Sol­diers of the US Army Sig­nal Corps cel­e­brate the Ar­mistice on the West­ern Front. At the point the United States de­clared war on Ger­many in 1917, the US Army num­bered just over 127,000 men, but by the war’s end 4 mil­lion sol­diers had served. The Amer­i­can Ex­pe­di­tionary Force suf­fered ap­prox­i­mately 360,000 ca­su­al­ties, of which 126,000 were killed in com­bat.
