Thirty-nine Soviet paratroopers fight a successful defensive battle against hundreds of mujahideen rebels and Pakistani mercenaries as part of Operation Magistral. Fighting near an important strategic road, the Soviets suffer just two fatalities while inflicting heavy losses on the mujahideen during 12 separate attacks.
