318 out of 330 Polish soldiers are killed in a 24-hour battle against numericall­y superior Soviet cavalrymen near Lwów. Despite their destructio­n, the Poles’ last stand halts the Red Army from seizing Lwów. This in turn contribute­s to the successful defence of Warsaw.
