IL DUCE IN THE WOLF’S LAIR

Hitler and Mussolini are briefed in the Wolf’s Lair headquarters. Located near Gierłoz, Poland, the Wolf’s Lair served as the Führer’s base on the Eastern Front. Mussolini spent four days with Hitler, during which they also visited the frontline, where the invasion of the Soviet Union was still progressing. Three years later the headquarters would be the scene of the 20 July assassination attempt on Hitler, coinciding with another visit by Mussolini, who arrived in the aftermath of the bomb detonation.
