WARDEN OF THE CINQUE PORTS
13 AUGUST 1946
Winston Churchill inspects the honour guard at Dover, wearing the uniform of the Warden of the Cinque Ports. Included on his uniform are his military medals and orders, many of which were awarded for service and conduct prior to the First World War. His earliest medal, received in 1895, was the Order of Military Merit for his part in the Cuban War of Independence. The US Distinguished Service Medal was awarded to Churchill as a result of his work as Munitions Minister during the First World War.
