THE CATASTROPH­IC FOURTH CRUSADE

The Fourth Crusade ends in disaster when the crusaders decide to sack Constantin­ople rather than continue on to the Holy Land. In the aftermath a Latin Empire is establishe­d in Constantin­ople and the former empire is split into several smaller parts. Constantin­ople is recaptured from the Latins in 1261.
