THE CATASTROPHIC FOURTH CRUSADE

The Fourth Crusade ends in disaster when the crusaders decide to sack Constantinople rather than continue on to the Holy Land. In the aftermath a Latin Empire is established in Constantinople and the former empire is split into several smaller parts. Constantinople is recaptured from the Latins in 1261.

The crusaders who came as allies showed that they were enemies when they plundered and pillaged the greatest city in Christendom
