INVASION OF THE DUTCH EAST INDIES

Japan begins its offensive against the Dutch East Indies shortly after the Netherlands declares war on 8 December. An amphibious invasion of Celebes is carried out on the night of 10-11 January, and by late February Java is invaded after the Allied defeat at the Battle of the Java Sea.
