DOOLITTLE RAID

-

Sixteen modified B-25 bombers from 17th Bombardment Group, USAAF, carry out a successful bombing raid on Tokyo. Launching from the carrier USS Hornet, the bombers evade Japanese detection and anti-aircraft defences, dropping an estimated 14 tons of bombs on factories, ammunition dumps and other military targets. The successful raid on the Japanese capital is a huge morale boost for the US.
