A factory riveter at work on an A-31 Vengeance, Vulteenash­ville, Tennessee. The iconic ‘We Can Do It!’ poster, designed by J Howard Miller for the Westinghou­se Electric & Manufactur­ing Company, was perhaps one of the most famous images associated with the ‘Rosie the Riveter’ character, symbolisin­g women’s home-front contributi­on to the American war effort. Despite their vital work, the real ‘Rosies’ were still paid less than their male counterpar­ts.
