ACK-ACK JACKPOT 12 OCTOBER, 1943

Members of an anti-aircraft battery pose with a piece of a Messerschm­itt 109 fighter they shot down on the night of 16 August, 1943. The Messerschm­itt was brought down from an altitude of 34,000 feet, and the recovered panel from the wreckage was converted into a trophy for the gun crew as recognitio­n of the “record feat in the history of AA gunnery”, the accompanyi­ng plaque reads.
