ACK-ACK JACKPOT 12 OCTOBER, 1943
Members of an anti-aircraft battery pose with a piece of a Messerschmitt 109 fighter they shot down on the night of 16 August, 1943. The Messerschmitt was brought down from an altitude of 34,000 feet, and the recovered panel from the wreckage was converted into a trophy for the gun crew as recognition of the “record feat in the history of AA gunnery”, the accompanying plaque reads.
