SECOND FLEET ARRIVES
While the Khan’s smaller fleet is engaged at Hakata Bay, the much larger fleet eventually arrives and lands successfully at Imari Bay, to the south. The Mongols attempt to outflank the Japanese defences at Hakata, but the rough terrain of Kyushu proves impenetrable. The Khan’s forces are unable to gain a foothold on land, but neither are the samurai able to drive off the large Mongol fleet, leading to a stalemate.
