BOMBING LUBECK
On the night of Saturday, 28 March, RAF Bomber Command launched a devastating raid on Lübeck, in Schleswig-holstein, North Germany. The attack involved 234 bombers loaded with
144 tons of incendiary bombs. It was expected that the medieval town’s old wooden buildings would be easily devastated by the ensuing inferno, and sure enough over 200 acres of the town were destroyed by fire, displacing just under 16,000 citizens.
