I’m sure like me, you are looking to the year ahead with a glimmer of hope at the thought of being able to visit heritage attractions, libraries, archives and the many other venues that were a big part of our lives before the onset of Covid-19.

As this new issue of shows, historians and archaeologists have been extremely creative in continuing with research projects and outreach work, and I am so grateful to all our contributors for writing for the magazine during these difficlt times. The news, articles and projects in the following pages are a heartening reminder that normality will return – and that heritage attractions small and large will need our support when they reopen.
