November 7 1917

The first day of the October Revolution (Russia were using the Julian calendar when they named it) was the spark for the Russian civil war. After the Provisional Government shut down newspapers and closed off Petrograd the day before to try to prevent the revolution, a fleet of Bolshevik sailors entered the harbour leading to tens of thousands of soldiers rising up in support of the Bolsheviks.
